Elements of the iUrban project will be implemented in eight work packages that are as follows:
WP1 establishes efficient and professional project management and coordination to achieve the project objectives and ensure their fulfillment.
In WP2 the system analysis and technical requirements and system parameters for development and implementation are defined. WP2 creates an inventory of all the aspects that can affect the project with a continuous discovery and analysis of requirements, needs and prospects, to be used in the design and development, implementation, validation and evaluation platform and services.
WP3 designs the main iURBAN ICT building blocks, following the WP2-identified requirements. The blocks will comprise the establishment of Smart City Database, the algorithms development of Smart City Prediction and Energy Market Trading & Coordination, and the model development of Virtual Power Plant (VPP) and IPMVP- based energy efficiency and GHG emissions savings model. A Smart City Database will contain all the data related to public and private buildings and the renewable resources in the city; it will be fed into the VPP simulation model and analyzed by the prediction algorithms and energy market trading and coordination algorithms. Hence, energy saving and GHG emission reduction will be predicted based on IPMVP methods for any proposed iURBAN solutions. Finally, the smartDSS will be designed and developed. It will provide a suitable platform for comprehensive analysis of the consumptions and productions, predicting of behaviors, creating energy user profiles and generating new strategies for the energy exchange.
In WP4 the software and ICT components will be integrated. The focus is on electricity and Heat/Cool grid distribution, control sensors and actuators at the Decision Support System level. User interfaces for building and city energy management will be developed.
WP5 proposes and supports a coherent, sound and productive approach to citizen participation and the empowerment and engagement of public authorities and energy companies. It ensures that the smartDSS and LDSS incorporate well innovative ideas by lead users in the development of the system and business models in the iURBAN project.
WP6 is responsible for the identification and development of new business models.
WP7 will test the performance of the proposed solution in a real environment. It will carry out substantial validations of the smartDSS, the user engagement and new business models.
WP8 is responsible for the dissemination activities and facilitates the successful exploitation of the results. It will schedule dissemination activities with the target users so that it defines a commercialization route, assesses the opportunities and risks associated, and initiates contacts with potential business partners and clients of the iUrban system.
